JEFFREY A. MEEKS, a founding partner of the Firm, is now retired. Prior to his tenure as the Chief of Staff to the Commissioner of the U.S. Customs Service. Mr. Meeks began his career as an Import Specialist for U.S. Customs, serving from 1971 to 1979. In 1979, he joined the staff of the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. as an attorney-advisor in the Office of Tariff Affairs, providing advice to Congress on tariff and trade legislation, as well as serving as an ITC advisor to the Trade Policy Staff Committee and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative on tariff and trade matters, including GSP.

Entering private practice in 1981, specializing in Customs law and related trade matters, including matters before the U.S. Court of International Trade, Mr. Meeks left private practice in 1993 to accept an appointment from the Clinton administration as Chief of Staff for the U.S. Customs Service. In that capacity, he served as the senior advisor to the Commissioner on legal and policy matters affecting the agency. Mr. Meeks served for several years on the Customs Liaison committee of the American Association of Exporters and Importers (AAEI).
