RALPH H. SHEPPARD, a founding Partner of the Firm, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont and his law degree from the Washington College of Law of the American University, Washington, D.C. After law school, Mr. Sheppard served as a prosecutor in Vermont and New York City. Since 1986, Mr. Sheppard’s practice has almost exclusively involved giving advice and assistance on import and export law to both domestic and foreign companies.

His practice includes representation of importers and exporters before U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Commerce and the Court of International Trade. Mr. Sheppard was an instructor with the World Trade Institute from 1991, teaching a seminar entitled “Customs Law Issues for Importers,” until the closing of the WTI in June 2005, and was Chairman of the AAEI NAFTA Rules of Origin Subcommittee. He has authored articles and treatises on a number of trade issues, including the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), rules of origin, Customs valuation practices, countertrade and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He is admitted to practice before various federal and state courts, including courts in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont.
